Fast ADSL
Fast ADSL
  • ADSL (Asymmetric digital subscriber line ) is a type of digital subscriber line (DSL) technology, a data communications technology that enables faster data transmission over copper telephone lines rather than a conventional voice band modem can provide. ADSL differs from the less common symmetric digital subscriber line (SDSL). Bandwidth (and bit rate) is greater toward the customer premises (known as downstream) than the reverse (known as upstream). This is why it is called asymmetric.
  • ADSL broadband is the most common broadband in NZ homes. It's fast, reliable, available in most places and can be bundled with a home calling line.
  • ADSL has been the standard in NZ for a long time and, depending on the quality of your lines, gives download speeds of up to 24Mb/s and upload speeds of 1Mb/s. The national average is about 10Mb/s download and 1Mb/s upload. This is plenty for the basics like emailing, surfing the net and checking social networks.

FasterVDSL
  • VDSL (Very-high-bit-rate digital subscriber line) is a digital subscriber line (DSL) technology providing data transmission faster than asymmetric digital subscriber line(ADSL) over a single flat untwisted or twisted pair of copper wires, and on coaxial cable using the frequency band from 25 kHz to 12 MHz. These rates mean that VDSL is capable of supporting applications such as high-definition television, as well as telephone services (voice over IP) and general Internet access, over a single connection. VDSL is deployed over existing wiring used for analog telephone service and lower-speed DSL connections.
  • VDSL broadband could reach download speeds of up to 70Mbps and upload speeds up to 10Mbps. There are a number of factors involved such as the condition of the copper cables and the distance from the nearest cabinet. The closer you are to the cabinet – the better.
  • Once VDSL has been installed, a technician will fine-tune the new service. While this is going on there could be some variability in how your connection performs. After 10 days, if the speed is not consistently better than 15Mbps download, and we aren't able to improve things, you can switch back to standard ADSL at no extra charge or penalty.
Ultra-fastBroadband(UFB)
Ultra-fastBroadband(UFB)
  • (UFB) Ultra-Fast Broadband Initiative is a New Zealand Government program of building fibre-to-the-home networks covering 80% of the population by 2022. With Ultra Fibre 30, the service has the ability to deliver Fibre speeds up to 30Mb/s downstream and 10Mb/s upstream. Ultra Fibre 100 has the ability to deliver Fibre speeds up to 100Mb/s downstream and 20Mb/s upstream. Ultra Fibre 200 can provide 200Mb/s downstream and 20Mb/s upstream. Ultra Fibre Gigatown can provide an amazing 1000Mb/s downstream and 500Mb/s upstream (only available in Dunedin). There are three pieces of equipment you need installed at your home: External Termination Point (ETP) - this will likely to be installed next to the current copper external termination point, which is typically outside your house.
  • Optical Network Terminal (ONT). The ONT is another small box, but this time it's attached to a wall inside your house. It's the place where you'll plug in your new modem, it’s also where your fibre landline will be connected. There are a number of considerations as to what the best location will be for the ONT. These include access to power points, whether you wish to continue to use your existing phone wiring for fibre landline therefore requiring proximity to an existing jackpoint. For internet use where you'll make most use of the internet, perhaps near a centrally located TV or computer. The installation team will discuss these options with you.
  • A fibre Wi-Fi modem - we will courier you the modem before the installation, so you'll just need to have it to hand when the work starts.

  • As long as you are in the same area you can keep your current number and if you prefer you can pick a new one. Otherwise we can simply allocate one for you. When we connect you to Fibre we will disconnect your copper phone line (if you have one) and replace it with a fibre based phone service (or no phone service if you go Naked).
  • This will affect the functionality of services such as medical and monitored alarms, faxes or set top boxes that use the existing copper phone connection to communicate, so please make sure any equipment is compatible with a Fibre landline by contacting the manufacturer or arranging for a test call to be made before the copper is disconnected.
  • National call: Applies to direct dial voice calls from your home line to landlines in New Zealand. Excludes calling cards 059, 0161, premium numbers (0900 and any International equivalent), calls made via Home 0800 or International 0800. Mobile call: Applies to calls made to standard New Zealand.
